PESHAWAR, May 13: Fine performances by Shahid and Bakht Risal and prefect setting by skipper Irfan guided Pakistan to straight set victory over Kazakhstan in the third match of the five-Test volleyball series at PSB Coaching Centre on Friday. Pakistan have won the series 3-0, winning earlier matches in Islamabad and Wah.

Shahid and Bakhat, having support of Zaheer, Kashif and libero Tariq, shattered Kazakhstan blockers.

Pakistan took the lead in the first set by racing to 6-3 ascendancy before the hosts won the opening set 25-17.

It was easy sailing for Pakistan as they won the second set 25-13 with setter Irfan, Tariq and spikers Shahi and Naseer, breaking Kazakhstan blockers.

Kazakhstan put up a resolute resistance in the third set as they stretched Pakistan to limits before going down 27-29.

The visitors got off to a good start taking 6-3 lead, but Pakistan fought neck-and-neck finally winning the set by close margin.

Later, Irfan said two changes had been made for the third Test and fielded Shahid and Zafar, replacing Sanaullah and Sajid along with two new faces Monib and Jawad Khan.

Patrakov Andrey, the Kazakhstan coach, said he was not disturbed over the defeat as he was concentrating on building a strong side for the forthcoming Asian club championship and World qualifying round to be held in June this year.

“We are actually in a rebuilding process and that’s why we are testing each player here against stronger Pakistan,” he said.

The two teams will play the fourth Test in Lahore on May 15 and the fifth in Karachi on May 17.—APP
