Lawyers end strike

DERA GHAZI KHAN, May 13: The district bar association ended its strike against the police on Friday after its successful negotiations with the DPO in the presence of an additional district and sessions judge. The row between lawyers and police started on May 11 when a lawyer had scuffled with a constable in the special judicial magistrate’s court. Later, the constable had taken refuge in the DPO’s record room when a number of lawyers tried to attack him. The enraged lawyers stormed into DPO’s office and tried to break open the record room’s door.

Later, on the direction of DPO Suleman Chaudhry, Civil Lines police had booked 36 lawyers, including DBA president. The DBA moved a writ petition against the DPO, an ASI and a constable for highhandedness. The lawyers also observed a protest strike for three days.—Correspondent
