NCHD praised for improving education, health services

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, May 13: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has praised the National Commission for Human Development for improving the quality of health sevices and education. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a community technology learning centre at the Government Madressah and High School here on Thursday.
He said he had lifted the ban on recruitment and had arranged interviews and tests for appointments in education and other departments through the Bahria College to ensure that appointments were made on merit.
The chief minister said training was necessary for teachers to improve their performance and added that incompetent teachers would be terminated.
He praised President Gen Pervez Musharraf for promoting information technology in the country, saying IT facility was available even in small towns.
Dr Rahim said revenue record in Sindh was being computerized.
He said the Government Madressah and High School, Naushahro Feroze, had played an important role in imparting quality education for 100 years. He also lauded the NCHD for establishing the community technology learning centre at the school.
The chief minister said the Sindh government was making efforts to eliminate corruption in government departments. He, however, said it would take time to improve the situation. He said honest officers would be given promotions.
He observed that improvement of law and order, health, education and irrigation systems had been his government’s priorities.
He said he was aware of demands of food department employees and announced that their services would be regularized.
In response to a demand of District Nazim Masroor Khan Jatoi, Dr Rahim said he would approach the federal government for providing gas facility to Bhirya, Phull, Tharushah and other towns of the district.
About the local bodies’ election, the chief minister asked people to vote for those candidates in the polls who would cooperate with the provincial government. Otherwise, he added, people would suffer because district nazims who would not cooperate with the government would not get proper funds and facilities for their districts.
Earlier, NCHD chief operating officer Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan welcomed the chief minister.
He thanked the district nazim for providing Rs10 million to the NCHD.
Later, the chief minister spoke at a public meeting at the Habib Park, Halani.
He announced to upgrade an intermediate college and a rural health centre in Halani.
On this occasion, Kandiaro Taluka Nazim Syed Abrar Ali Shah, a brother of Syed Manzoor Ali Shah, quit the Awam Dost Panel and announced joining the Jatoi group.
