KARACHI: Ibad orders raise in grants for press clubs


KARACHI, May 13: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan has issued directive for provision of grants to all the press clubs in the province, including Karachi Press Club, in accordance with their needs and allocating the same regularly in the provincial budget every year. In a meeting with a seven-member delegation of Karachi Press Club here on Friday at Governor’s House, Ishratul Ibad asked the authorities concerned to enhance the KPC annual grant to five million rupees.

The governor also directed the city government to raise the KPC grant from existing Rs200,000 to one million rupees. He said the amount of annual grant for press clubs in the province should be raised to Rs10 million and the same should be provided to them in an appropriate manner keeping their requirements in view.

He also had an appraisal about the issue of proprietary right of Karachi Press Club building and assured of his all cooperation in this regard.

In the meeting, the progress made in the Hawkesbay Journalists’ Society was also considered. The governor directed the finance minister that required funds for development works should be provided and allocation of funds in the next budget should also be ensured in this regard.

The delegation members informed the governor about impediments in the way of allotment of plots for the employees of Karachi Press Club. He issued necessary directives to DCO in this regard.

The MQM coordination committee member Nasreen Jalil, Information Adviser Salahuddin Hyder, Lyari Resettlement Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, DCO Fazlur Rehman and other officials were also present. —APP
