GUJRANWALA, May 12: At least 16 more cholera patients were brought to the district headquarters hospital from interior of the city and remote areas here on Thursday. The number of cholera patients brought to the hospital so far has reached 91 during the last week.

Reports said that mostly children upto 12 years were among the patients being provided medical care at various wards of the hospital.

A teenaged girl, Najma Bibi, of Alipur Chattha, had died of cholera at the hospital on Wednesday.

The Punjab health department has so far failed to take any protective measures to check the rising incidence of the disease in and around the city, while it is feared that more cholera cases could surface in the next few days.

However, the civil hospital administration was providing better medical facilities and care to such patients.

SUICIDE: A young girl allegedly committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over domestic problems in Eminabad.Reports said the girl quarrelled with her parents and in a fit of dejection swallowed the pills. She was rushed to the DHQ hospital in critical condition where she died. The body was handed over to her heirs after autopsy.

blast: Two people were injured seriously when a bomb exploded in Kashmir Colony here on Thursday night.

Reports said that Shabbir Ahmad and an unidentified man sustained injuries when the bomb planted by some unidentified culprits to destroy gas pipelines went off. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, SNGPL regional manager Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad said that no damage was done to the gas pipeline.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
