SARGODHA, May 11: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday condoled the death of Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, who was the PML Punjab vice-president, with his family at their residence in Bhalwal, about 40 kilometres from here.

He lauded the services the late PML leader had rendered for politics.

The chief minister appointed Nasir Ali, a son of the late PML leader, to the post of PML Punjab VP. He advised him to follow in the footsteps of his father.

Later, he flew towards Sargodha to host luncheon in the honour of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, local members of parliament, and district and tehsil nazims at the circuit house.

HIGH ALERT: A curfew-like situation was witnessed in the district, as police and armymen did not allow free movement of motorists and pedestrians on almost all roads ahead of the president’s visit.

Army officials had taken charge of security in the last two days and police contingents from seven districts, besides the Elite Force officials, were also called in to assist them.

Reports said almost all the educational institutions and government offices remained closed. Even commercial markets were kept closed.

The gates of the circuit house were closed at 2.15pm and those parliamentarians and district and tehsil nazims, who reached late, were not allowed to enter.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that President Musharraf inspected the Mushaf Air base, sensitive installation of Kirana Hills and remount depot.
