Another girl attacked in Wah

TAXILA, May 10: The police have failed to trace a group of unidentified people who injured six women by attacking them with blades in Wah Cantonment over a week ago. According to unofficial reports, another woman was injured in a similar attack while a schoolteacher escaped unhurt during the last twenty-four hours.

In the first incident, Mehwish Gul, 14, was attacked with a sharp object near Bhabra in the jurisdiction of Wah Cantonment police. The injured was taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital and provided treatment.

In the second incident, two motorcycle riders tried to attack a schoolteacher, but she remained unhurt.

A round-the-clock surveillance has been ordered at all public places. The POF administration has put the law-enforcement agencies on alert.

The incidents have created panic among students. As a result, attendance in schools and other educational institutions has dropped.

Sources told this correspondent that the students of some religious seminaries were involved in the incidents as they wanted women to remain indoor.

SIX POLICEMEN SUSPENDED: Six police officials of the anti-car lifting cell deputed on GT Road near Margalla hills were suspended for allegedly taking bribes from commuters.

After receiving complaints from the public, Subdivisional Police Officer Mohammad Ijaz Khan on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the checkpost and found the police officials taking bribe from commuters on various pretext.

He suspended the officials on the spot and ordered an enquiry against them. Those who were suspended included in charge of the cell ASI Iqbal, head constable Mushtaq, constables Tasleem, Dilawar and Ghazanfar.

MANAGEMENT COURSE: A group of 42 senior bureaucrats, ambassadors and executives from corporate sector, attending the 82nd National Management Course, along with eight faculty members of the Pakistan Administrative Staff College, Lahore, visited the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) in Wah Cantonment on Tuesday.

On arrival at the Board Office Building, Director Export Syed Naseem Raza briefed them about the functions and defence production capabilities of the industrial complex.

He said prime objective of the POF was to provide arms and ammunition to the armed forces during peace and war.

He said the POF was meeting 100 per cent requirements of the armed forces, besides exporting surplus capacity to various friendly countries.
