HYDERABAD, May 10: The River Indus received 930 cusecs of water from the Manchhar Lake through the Aral Wah on Tuesday. The level of the Manchhar Lake was recorded at 108.9RL. According to reports, 40,000 cusecs of water was flowing in the Indus at the spot where contaminated water of the lake was released. The water level at upstream Kotri Barrage was recorded at 33,000 cusecs and 20,935 cusecs at downstream on Tuesday.

Off-taking canals are getting around 12,085 cusecs from the Indus.

At the Sukkur Barrage, the water level was recorded at 72,614 cusecs at upstream and 44,639 cusecs at downstream.

It takes about one week for water to reach the Kotri Barrage from the Sukkur Barrage and about three days for water to reach the Kotri Barrage from the point where the Manchhar water is released into the Indus.

So far, 4,145 cusecs of the lake water has been released into the Indus during four days.

Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Agency, Hyderabad Development Authority, reiterated that water being supplied to people in Hyderabad was quite safe and WHO standards were being maintained in the supply of water.

A Wasa spokesman said the lake-river water ratio of 1:40 was being strictly observed and the water quality was being tested every day intermittently.
