KARACHI: 20 centres for HSC exams declared sensitive

KARACHI, May 10: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, has marked down 20 of the HSC annual examination centres, including the one for woman candidates, as the sensitive ones as far as law and order situation was concerned. A senior official of the BIE examination department said on Tuesday that extra security measures would be needed for an interruption free conduct of examinations at the sensitive centres and in this regard rangers and police were being sent the list of such centres.

The HSC examinations will commence on May 17 for which 212 examination centres, including 81 those for woman candidates, would be established in government and private colleges and higher secondary schools in the city. The examinations would be held in two shifts for Science, Commerce and Home Economics groups’ candidates.

Last year the BIE had declared 32 centres, including the eight for woman candidates, as sensitive. The list of sensitive centres has been reduced in view of the betterment in law and order situation, said the official, adding that law enforcing personnel would be deployed at all the examination centres to discourage unruly and external elements from interfering in the process of examinations.

The sensitive educational institutions are as follows:

Jamia Millia College; Superior Science College; Government College Landhi/Korangi-6; Government Degree College, Liaquatabad; Government Degree College, 5-L, New Karachi; Government College, Gulzar-i-Hijri; Government College, Saudabad; Government College, Lyari; S M Science College; Government College, Buffer Zone; Comprehensive School, Korangi-3; Islamia Arts and Commerce College; Qureshi School (Islamia College building); Aisha Bawany College; Sirajuddaula College; Government Degree College, 36-B, Landhi; S M Arts and Commerce College; Nabi Bagh College; Degree Boys College (Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed), University Road and Degree Girls College (Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed), University Road.

The breakdown of candidates is as follows:

Pre-Engineering; Part-I 18,905 males and 8,735 females, Part-II 22,940 males and 11,714 females.

Pre-Medical; Part-I 3,850 males and 11,124 females, Part-II 3,279 males and 10,522 females.

Home Economics; Part I- 565 and Part II-517.

Commerce (Regular); Part-I 13,972 male and 7,900 females, Part-II 11,688 males and 6,162 females.

Commerce (Private); Part-I 5,390 males and 1,354 females, Part-II 4,965 males and 1,428 females.

HSC Science group examinations will be conducted from 9am to 12noon, while that of the commerce group will be held from 2am to 5pm. After the completion of the first phase, the examinations of the regular and private candidates of the Humanities Group would be held.

The board will also field 70 vigilance teams to oversee the conduct of examinations. Unauthorized change of centre is liable to cancellation of results and imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000, while mobile and college bags are strictly prohibited at the examination centre said a BIEK circular.

In the meantime colleges started giving admit cards pertaining to Science and Commerce groups examinations on Tuesday.
