KARACHI, May 9: The traffic police system at Sharea Faisal will be established on Motorway Police model and later the traffic management through out the city will be streamlined on this system in phases. This was decided in a meeting, chaired by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, held here on Monday. It was decided that this motorway police model system at Sharea Faisal would be made fully functional in six weeks and in other parts of the city in three years.
Traffic police will be provided with all necessary facilities, including surveillance cameras and motorcycles, within six weeks.
Under the plan, the 17km-long artery will be divided into four beats; each to be supervised by sub-inspectors and above grade officials who would ensure the enforcement of traffic rules in a civilized manner.
DIG Traffic Mohammed Yamin briefed the governor about the performance of traffic police, its requirements and other necessary details.
The governor issued directive for immediately outsourcing the system of vehicle fitness. He said in case of issuing wrong fitness certificate, the concerned private organization should be black listed.
Ishratul Ibad expressed displeasure that despite repeated decisions and directives, the inter-city bus terminals were not being shifted.—APP
