KARACHI, May 9: An unrelenting heat wave pushed temperatures across the city towards 40°C on Monday, the hottest day of the month. An official of Meteorological Department said that the maximum temperature on Monday was at least six degrees more than that on Sunday. He added that the rise in temperature was accompanied by a sharp drop in humidity, which fell to nine per cent from Sunday’s 54 per cent.
“The city usually receives south-westerly wind from the Arabian Sea at this time of the year. But a weather pressure system cut off the south-westerly wind and brought in winds from the desert of Balochistan. Hence, a rise in temperature and a drop in humidity,” he explained. He said minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 24°C.
