Girl students being ‘fleeced’

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, May 8: Teachers and the staff of government colleges are fleecing thousands of girl students of intermediate classes. Hundreds of girl students of various colleges are being charged science funds although they are appearing in humanities group.

A lecturer requesting anonymity claimed that funds were being taken from students on the directive of the Punjab government as intimated by EDO (Education) Rao Salamat Ali.

One Shoaib Ilyas informed this correspondent that when his daughter went to collect her roll number slip, the college management asked her to first deposit the admission fee for the second year session.

He said the clerical staff was charging Rs110 extra from each student to provide receipt of the second year fees.

He alleged that any student venturing to demand a receipt from the clerical staff was given a slip of fine. He claimed that he had paid Rs900, but the clerk issued him a receipt of only Rs790.

He further claimed that union funds were also being collected from students despite the fact that the government had imposed a ban on unions.

Moreover, he said that burqa fund was also being charged from each student although the college administration did not allow burqa to first year students.

Mr Ilyas said that his children were studying in various government schools, but they were being charged from Rs20 to Rs50 every month under various heads, including school renovation, chalks and dusters.

When contacted, the EDO (Education) was not available in his office for offering his comments on the issue.
