Boy run over by bus

FAISALABAD, May 8: Hundreds of residents of Chibban, Shadman Road and other adjoining localities, protesting the death of a boy who was run over by a Metro Bus here, blocked traffic and smashed windowpanes of passenger vehicles on Sunday. The boy was crushed by the bus when he was crossing the road.

The protesters, mostly youths, damaged windowpanes of two Metro buses and also pelted stones at some passing-by passenger vehicles. They blocked traffic on all roads of the area by burning old tyres and erecting barricades.

They raised slogans against police and district administration, alleging that no action was being taken against the bus company as it was owned by an influential person.

The protesters alleged that although the rashly-driven Metro buses were causing two to three deaths in road accidents in a week not a single driver or bus owner had so far been penalized.

Police officials, along with heavy contingent, reached the spot and held dialogue with the protesters.

The protesters warned the officials that if the driver of the bus was not rounded up they would protest in front of the offices of district nazim.
