By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 8: The Mothers’ Day, which is celebrated around the globe with much fanfare, passed off without any major event organized by either the government or the numerous non-governmental organizations working for women and children in the city, on Sunday.

The day is celebrated internationally to pay tribute and show affection to mothers.

However, special dishes were cooked at different Edhi Homes in the city including the one in North Karachi which houses a large number of women. Bilquis Edhi distributed food among the inmates.

Special programmes were also held at different Edhi Homes for children in the city, including the one in Clifton and children presented various tableaus expressing their gratitude and love to their mothers.

Speaking on the occasion, Kubra Edhi highlighted the role of mother in the upbringing and grooming of children.

A large number of people, accompanied by their children, participated in a function organized by the International Human Rights Forum at Bukhari Centre in F.B Area on the Mothers’ Day.
