Empire Maker poised to win feature event
LAHORE, May 7: Four-year-old bay thoroughbred colt, Empire Maker, with three impressive victories on the trot, will be going all out to add one more, when the Lahore Summer Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday. Contesting in the sixth and supporting event, this son of Cry For The Clown out-of-Prudence, Empire Maker, will start off as day’s best by his excellent three wins in-a-row.
The high pedigreed colt, Empire Maker, will however, have bay gelding End Play and chestnut colt Sunny Kid constant thorns in his side going over the sprinting distance of 1300m.
The Sangla Hill Plate is a class IV division II handicap race and will be contested by a dozen runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.
The feature event, the Sangla Hill Plate class IV division I has only seven runners. This is a very tightly handicapped race and looks to be an open affair.
Of them four are on chance. They are: Baker Lard, Running Stage, Young Emperor and Pawan.
On recent performances, winner picking may prove a difficult task but on handicap and weight-scales It should be a contest between top weight Baker Lard and the lowly placed Pawan. They should fight for the top honours.
The speedy, High Dream, seems cut above in class vis-à-vis his 13 rivals to pick up the spoils in the fifth race, the Sangla Hill Plate class V division III to be gone over 1300m.
The three-year-old filly from Key Guy out-of-Desert Storm, High Dream, was twice beaten in her as much attempts previously should make amends and win this time. She should be chased by Zardan and Baker Eye, all the way home.
Four-year-old bay filly, Savera, looks a good thing in the third race, the Sambrial Plate class V division II over 1200m. She should not have any difficulty in defeating another filly, Queen Of Saba over 1200m. Both the fillies had finished closest in their previous outing on Sunday last over 1000m.
The 200m addition in the distance should favour Savera against Queen Of Saba. The first, second and fourth races are filled with speedy horses. They have 18, 14 and 13 runners, respectively, barring last-minute withdrawals.
The race-goers should witness some close competitions to enjoy these races. After bidding adieu, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) has chalked out four-day Lahore Summer Meetings programme starting on Sunday. Meetings will be held weekly on Sundays ending on May 29.
The first race will be held at 1.30pm.
