Boy dies in firing

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, May 7: A boy was killed and another was injured in aerial firing by participants of a marriage party in Fakir-ka-Pir on Friday night. The boy was identified as Asif, son of Zafar, a resident of Teli Para, Talab-2. The injured, Kashif, son of Mohammad Shakeel, a resident of Pinjra Pole, was taken to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital where he was operated upon.

Eye-witnesses said police were present on the occasion but they did not prevent people from resorting to firing.

Later at around 3am, enraged neighbours of the deceased boy attacked the house of the bridegroom, Imran, son of Sharif, and the marriage hall.

Police were called to disperse the protesting people.

The marriage ceremony had to be wound up as the bridegroom and his father disappeared from the hall. Reports said they were detained by police.

Police sources confirmed that five people, including three employees of Sharif, had been picked up. The residents also caught hold of Shakir, son of Sharif, and handed him over to police. Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Naeem Ishtiaq and zonal organiser Siraj Rajput also arrived there and pacified the crowd.

The Fort police registered a case on the complaint of Mr Zafar against Sharif, his son, Shakir, and some unidentified people. Mr Shakeel also lodged a case against Sharif and his son, Shakir. Another case was registered under section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance against Shakir.
