KARACHI, May 7: Opposition leader in the National Assembly and General Secretary of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Friday that City Nazim Niamatullah Khan had revived a great example by naming different roads and roundabouts in the city after ulama and other Islamic scholars.
Addressing a ceremony held at Sher Shah Chowk here to rename the Hub River Road as Shahrah-i-Mufti Mehmood, he said that the naming of roads and roundabouts after ulema and scholars was actually a great homage and tribute to their services.
The MMA leader said that Pakistan had come into existence after great struggle and sacrifices by Muslims, but its governance had been handed over to slaves of British rulers.
“Such elements tried their best to promote norms and customs of English society but a change has now come,” he said.
He was of the view that there was a great difference between thinking of the common man and our rulers.
Speaking on the occasion, Niamatullah Khan remarked that the nations which never forgot their benefactors remained alive forever.
He pointed out that the corrupt and dishonest people who had been voted to power in the past were now punishing the entire nation. Therefore, he stressed, one must cast his vote for right people.—PPI
