LAHORE, May 6: Fine half centuries by Zahid Nazir and Ahmed Shahzad helped Government Muslim Model High School win the Lahore Inter-school cricket championships beating The City School by seven wickets at the Qadhafi Stadium on Friday. Set to score 167 to win in 45 overs, the winners romped home in 26.1 overs scoring 167 for three mainly due to hurricane batting by Zahid (75, 13 fours) and Ahmad (58, seven fours, one six).
Off-spinner Saad Ullah Ghauri took two wickets for 48. Earlier, The City School got off to a fine start 135-3 but their last seven wickets tumbled with the addition of only 31 runs.
Haris Navid top-scored with 35, hitting two fours while opener Waqas Arshad (28, six fours) also made a useful contribution.
Leg-spinner Asif Ghauri did the main damage by taking three wickets for 19 runs.
Leg-spinner Ahmad Shahzad also excelled with the ball snaring two wickets for 10 runs in only 2.4 overs. Hafiz Saad Nasim, another leg-spinner, took two wickets for 29 runs.
