Samar fastest athlete

LAHORE, May 6: Sahiwal with 59 points won the first Punjab Sports Board U-17 athletics championships at the Punjab Stadium on Friday. Sahiwal claimed three gold, two silver and three bronze medals to claim first position. Sargodha secured second spot with 46 points, grabbing three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

The hosts, Lahore came third with a tally of 31 points, taking one, gold, silver and bronze medal each. Rawalpindi earned fourth spot with 25 points winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. On the final day, three finals were decided in which Sargodha won two. Ali Mehmood of Sargodha clocked one minute 59.59 seconds to win the 800m race.

Khalid Masood and Tanvir Abbas of Sahiwal notched up the second and the third spot, respectively. Sargodha also won a gold medal in the 4x100m race when its team covered the distance in 45.70secs. Rawalpindi and Bhakhar came second and third.

The third gold of the day went to Khushab when Samar Abbas won 100m race clocking 11.25 secs.

He was also declared the fastest athlete of the meet. Imran of Sahiwal and Ali Raza grabbed second and third spot.

Results:

800m: Ali Mahmood (Sargodha) one min 59.59 secs; Khalid Masood (Sahiwal) two min 00.49secs; Tanvir Abbas (Sahiwal) two min 00.89secs.

100m:

Samar Abbas (Khushab )11.25 sec; Imran (Sahiwal) 11.28sec; Ali Raza (Sargodha) 11.53 sec.

4x100m relay:

Sargodha , 45.70; Rawalpindi 46.27sec; Bhakhar 46.40sec.
