HYDERABAD, May 6: The Sindh government has decided to set up a coalmine training centre and a model coalmine at Lakhra in collaboration with the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, the Sindh Coal Authority, the Inspectorate of Mines, Sindh, and the Mines Owners Association, Sindh zone. Sindh minister for mines and minerals Irfanullah Khan Marwat has endorsed the proposal.

According to sources, the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held at the MUET on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, the chairman, department of mining engineering.

Sources said that training will be imparted to mining engineers, mine managers, mine workers and mining students.

Following the establishment of the training centre and model coalmine, many a job opportunity will be generated for the qualified and experienced manpower. It will also open new vistas for research in mining.

Those who attended the meeting included Sindh Coal Authority director-general Syed Abbas Ali, Professor Dr Abdul Ghani Pathan, Professor Ghulam Raza Halepoto, the chief inspector of mines, Sindh, Mr Khalid Mirza, PMDC project director Mohammad Mushtaq, Indus Coal Mines chief engineer Syed Qasim Ali, and professor Pervez Shakeel of mining and engineering department, Mehran University.

POSITION HOLDERS: The controller of examinations, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, here on Friday announced the names of position holders of bachelor of metallurgy and material engineering.

Syed Ibtesam Hassan, son of Syed Asghar Hassan Abidi, secured first position, Farhan Ahmed, son of Aftab Ahmed Makhdoom, secured second, and Jamal Ahmed, son of Zaman Khan Afridi, secured third position.
