LAHORE, May 5: Sahiwal claimed three gold medals to emerge as leaders of the first Punjab Sports Board U-17 Inter-district athletics championships on Thursday, the penultimate day, at the Punjab Stadium. Imran Ghafoor clocked 22:80 secs to win the 200m race to earn the first gold medal of the day for Sahiwal.
Samar Abbas of Khushab earned second position in a photo- finish with a difference of only nine micro secs.
Tanvir Anjum (Mandi Bahauddin) came third.
Abdul Rasheed grabbed the second gold for Sahiwal winning the 400m race in 51:47 sec.
Ali Mohammad of Sargodha secured second spot finishing the distance in 51:48 seconds.
Khalid Mahmood of Sahiwal earned the bronze medal clocking 52 secs.
Sahiwal notched up third gold in the 4x400metre relay clocking three mins 33.67 secs.
Bhakhar gained the silver medal clocking three minutes 35:80 seconds followed by Sargodha who claimed the bronze medal with the timing of three minutes 36:48secs.
Lahore won their first gold medal when Saood Asghar won the long-jump with a leap of 6.22 metres, followed by Mudassar Mushtaq of Faisalabad who jumped 5.88metres to earn silver medal.
Zulifqar Ali of Bhakhar claimed the third spot.
In the last event of the day, Faisalabad’s Ghulam Dastgir snatched the gold medal in javelin with the throw of 55metres followed by Muhammad Imran of Rawalpindi (54.85metres) and Saood Asghar of Lahore (50.36m).
