KARACHI: Shifting of colleges to govt buildings demanded
KARACHI, May 5: An action committee of St. Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s colleges on Thursday demanded of the Sindh education minister and the city nazim to shift these colleges to new buildings constructed by the city government as they did not want to work under Christian missionaries.
A meeting of the action committee, held here at the St. Patrick’s college and attended by a large number of students, parents, teachers and CDGK representatives, observed that neither parents nor students were taken into confidence before denationalizing these two reputed colleges of Karachi.
The meeting also observed that all the teachers wanted to remain in government service while almost all of the students also wanted to get education from their teachers instead of those appointed by the Christian missionaries.
The action committee said when all stake holders including teachers, students and parents were not in favour of the denationalization of these colleges, it was the responsibility of the government to hand over the buildings of these colleges to Catholic Education Board and shift the colleges to government-owned buildings.
Among others the meeting was attended by convener of the action committee Education Adviser Naseem Siddiqui and representatives of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA).—PPI
