By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, May 5: The Awami League has again initiated talks with smaller parties to forge a broad-based political alliance against the government of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led four-party ruling alliance. Senior leaders of the Awami League, including its president Sheikh Hasina, had a closed-door meeting with top leaders of Workers’ Party on Tuesday. Reports suggest that such talks with other parties would be completed by the third week of May, while a political understanding between the parties, to be based on common minimum programme, likely to be completed in June.
