Asif, Ali send rivals packing

LAHORE: Four goals by Asif Tiwana and three by Ali Malik steered RC Cola to a convincing 8 1/2-4 win over Master Paints in the Equestrian Cup polo on Wednesday. The winners had a half goal handicap. Master Paints gained 2-1 1/2 lead in the first half as Sufi Mohammad Haris and Maula Baksh scored a field goal each. The winners reduced the lead through Irfan Ali Hyder, who banged home a field goal.

In the second chukker, RC Cola earned 3 1/2-3 lead. Asif Tiwana launched his campaign of four goals converting a 60 yards penalty hit at the outset.

But Master Paints’ Sheraz Qureshi soon put his team ahead by scoring a field goal off a fine pass from Sufi Aamir. Three-goal Ali Malik pumped in his first to help his team salvage the lead. A three-goal rally through field attempts in the third chukker gave RC Cola a strong lead of 6 1/2-3. Ali Malik added two goals while Asif his second.

In the fourth chukker Asif added back-to-back goals before Sheraz struck his second for the losers to complete the tally.
