BADIN, May 4: Hundreds of activists belonging to various parties along with the representatives of NGOs took out a procession here on Wednesday in protest against their policy of denying jobs to local youths and depriving people of Badin of royalty and development by the oil firm working in the Badin oil block. Led by representatives of Badin Rural Development Society, the protesters carrying banners and placards, marched on the main thoroughfares of the town.
They raised slogans against the oil company and its executives.
The protesters also staged a sit-in on the national highway at the DCO chowk for two hours and later they moved to the DCO and district nazim secretariat and delivered a memorandum.
They were demanding royalty for oil being explored in the district and 50 percent of oil income be spent on development schemes of the district.
They also demanded jobs for the local youth in the company.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akash Ansari alleged that the executives of the oil company were intentionally spoiling peaceful atmosphere of Badin and by ignoring the locals in the community development works.
He said that if company failed to invest 50 per cent of its income from the Badin oil on community development, they would launch a protest campaign.
