HYDERABAD, May 2: Sindh University vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has called upon the lawyer community to play role in securing justice and relief for the common man. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the department of law at the Elsa Kazi campus of the university here on Monday.
A large number of lawyers, university professors, intellectuals and elite attended the function.
The vice-chancellor urged the community to help in strengthening the law department as law education was very important in the dispensation of justice.
He said establishment of the law department and starting LL.M classes was pending since 1984 which had been translated into reality after many years.
Mr Siddiqui said there was a shortage of resources in the university but all required facilities would be provided to the law department.
He appreciated the efforts of the committee including Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Aftab Shaikh, Prof Asif Kazi, Saleh Rajar and Yousuf Leghari for starting LL.M classes in the university.
Jinnah Law College principal Aftab Shaikh said setting up of the law department and introduction of LL.M classes was a very difficult task which had been completed by the vice-chancellor.
Ahmed Ali Shaikh, dean of the Faculty of Law, said longstanding wish of the people of the city had been fulfilled and hopefully the youth would derive maximum benefit from LLM classes.
Prof Asif Kazi suggested incorporation of Islamic jurisprudence in LL.M syllabus.
He said that at the Elsa Kazi campus, the university had already started different programmes and established an excellent computer laboratory for the students of Sindh University Model School.
Yousuf Leghari, first chairman of the law department said the university had opened doors for higher education of lawyers by establishing the law department.
Mr Leghari lauded the efforts of the university administration for establishing law department and development of co-curriculum for LL.M programme.
The admission forms will be issued to candidates from the Habib bank Limited Jamshoro and Elsa Kazi Campus branches from May, 5 for LLM classes.
MUET: The regular examinations of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology have started from May 2.
A total number of 800 girl and boy students are appearing in 16 disciplines of engineering, architecture and electrical, electronics and computer science at 20 centres.
