SUKKUR, May 1: A heavy duststorm coupled with torrential rain lashed Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kandhkot, Jacobabad and Ghotki districts on Sunday night, paralyzing life in the areas. The duststorm hit the northern part of the province at about 8pm after which the rain started which continued till the filing of the report.

Several trees, electric poles and hoardings were uprooted and roofs of katcha houses were blown off. Electricity was suspended. Hesco officials said high tension lines fell at various places due to which the power was disrupted.

All the main roads and bazaars of the city were also inundated with rain water and people confined to their homes. According to the agriculture experts the rain was harmful for farmers as wheat stocks after harvesting were lying in open fields and the rains could damage it.

It may be mentioned that it was first time in the history of upper Sindh that it rained in April and May due to which weather had become pleasant.

On Saturday, a heavy duststorm had hit Sukkur and its allied areas followed by light showers.
