Cricketers get cash awards

KARACHI, May 1: Pakistan vice-captain Younis Khan, mercurial all-rounder Shahid Afridi and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria were awarded Rs100,000 by their employers for their outstanding performances on the recent tour of India. At a simple ceremony held at the Habib Bank’s head office here on Saturday, Zakir Mahmood, the bank’s president, presented the cash awards to the cricketers.

Two other HBL players, who were members of the Pakistan cricket team in India, left-handed opening batsman Taufiq Umar and pace bowler Shahid Nazir, were handed out Rs50,000 each on the occasion. Abdul Raquib, director sports of HBL, was also present at the ceremony.
