KARACHI: Rs124.53m set aside for recreation


KARACHI, May 1: The city government plans to develop the city’s first ‘Rose and Jasmine Garden’ on the premises of the Safari Park, the City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, said during the announcement of the city budget for the fiscal 2005-06 on Saturday.

The nazim, giving details of the budget, said Rs124.53 million had been earmarked for development of various recreational spots, parks and sports centre across the city.

He said the city government was particularly focussing on the improvement of the available facilities at the Safari Park and the Karachi City Zoo, two major recreational-cum-educational sites in the city, during the fiscal 2005-06.

For the very purpose, Rs18.50 million has been allocated for the refurbishment of the Safari Park, which includes construction of roads within the park and development of the city’s first rose and jasmine garden on its premises.

Meanwhile, Rs15 million have been reserved for the construction of an indoor gymnasium at the Kashmir Road Sports Complex, pending since 1998.

The nazim said it would be the first of its kind in indoor gymnasiums, meeting international standards and paving way for competitions and events at the international level.—APP
