HYDERABAD, May 1: The International Labour Day was observed throughout Sindh on Sunday to pay homage to the martyrs of Chicago.

Processions were taken out and rallies were held at almost all district and taluka headquarters.

Leaders of trade union criticized violation of labour laws, retrenchment of workers, non-registration of workers by the Social Security Institution and EOBI.

In Hyderabad, more than a dozen rallies were held by different trade unions.

A procession was brought out by the Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union and All-Pakistan Trade Unions Organization which terminated at the press club.

The PWHECLU leaders criticized ban on the right of trade union activities in many organizations.

NAWABSHAH: A function was organized by the Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union at the Labour hall Manuabad.

Ali Jan Rind and Asadullah Qureshi said workers were being pressurized by the rulers by enforcing ordinance 2002.

They demanded that the government should accept their charter of demands including increase in salaries.

KHAIRPUR: A rally was staged by Mutahedda Mazdoor Federation.

It started from Phool Bagh and after passing through different roads reached the press club.

Labour leaders Mohammad Ali Phulpoto and Amjad Lashari said the labour class was affected by poverty and 90 per cent of their children were compelled to child labour.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A large number of daily wage workers including Food Employees Federation temporary chowkidars led by Mohammad Khan Almani and Younus Rajpar took out a rally from the district food godown which after passing various roads reached at press club.

DADU: A rally was staged here to observe the Labour Day.

JACOBABAD: Sindh Taraqi Pasand Mazdoor Federation, Mazdoor Ittehad Union and other labour unions took out a big procession here on Sunday to commemorate Labour Day.

MIRPURKHAS: A rally was taken out by the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign Mirpurkhas from the railway station chowk.

The leaders said eight hours were fixed for labourers in the world following a struggle by workers of Chicago in 1886.

SUKKUR: Hundreds of workers took out a rally and staged a protest demonstration outside the press club in protest against price hike and unemployment.

The rally passing through the main thoroughfares of the city reached at the press club where the workers staged a protest demonstration.
