BEIING, April 30: Pakistan-China border for land trade via Karakorum Highway is expected to reopen next week. Official sources said in Beijing that the Chinese custom authority will immediately start working at Taxkorgan-Sust custom point for facilitating import-export between the two countries.

The Chinese custom point, which was opened to Pakistan in 1982, normally remains open to goods and passengers from May 1 to Dec 31. The reopening has been delayed a little due to harsh winter weather conditions in early part of the year.

The sources hoped that trade through the route will be geared up with the reopening of the border. A large number of trucks and containers, carrying goods are waiting to cross the border.

Bilateral exchanges are also likely to get boost at the private sector level in the coming months. We are expecting a considerable increase in the trade activities between the two countries, after implementing the early harvesting programme signed between the two countries, they said.—APP
