15 dead, 12 trapped in China mines

BEIJING, April 30: The death toll rose to 15 on Saturday from a gas explosion in a northern China coal-mine while a blast at another mine trapped 12 workers, state media said. A total of 15 bodies have been found following the blast on Thursday in the Coal-mine in Hancheng city, 360 kilometres from Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Ten miners were rescued by Saturday morning after being trapped underground for 36 hours following the accident, said Xinhua. Rescuers were searching for four other miners trapped in the private mine.

Separately, a gas blast trapped 12 miners on Saturday in Zongling town, Nayong County in southwest China’s Guizhou province, Xinhua reported.—AFP
