No clue to missing student
FAISALABAD, April 30: Police have allegedly buried the case of mysterious missing of a University of Agriculture student by declaring it a non-cognizable offence, and refused to proceed further.
MSc physics student Fayyaz Ahmad has been missing from the university hostel for a fortnight.
According to information gathered by this correspondent, the Civil Lines police had just entered the incident in their daily register and refused to take any further action.
The police on Saturday asked Muhammad Riaz, a brother of the victim, and his other relatives to trace Fayyaz on their own by making announcements in the print and electronic media.
Riaz had told Dawn the other day that his brother was whisked away by some unknown people from the Jinnah hall where he resided. He said he had brought the matter into the notice of the hall warden, superintendent of hostels and the UAF student affairs’ director, but all of them did nothing more than paying lip service.
When contacted, Civil Lines police SHO Mian Adnan said the missing of a student from the university campus was a non-cognizable offence and there was no need to depute any team to trace the student.
