KARACHI:JI demands implementation of code of conduct

KARACHI, April 30: Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, a central leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, has said if the 19-point code of conduct adopted at a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House on Thursday night for maintaining conducive atmosphere in educational institutions is implemented sincerely, it could prove a milestone in creating a tension-free situation in the city.

But, he expressed apprehension about its implementation as even certain points were violated openly in the presence of the rangers and police personnel on Friday and Saturday in some of the institutions where outsiders were allowed to enter.

Prof Ghafoor, who had attended the high-level meeting on the invitation of Governor Ishratul Ibad , was addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Saturday.

Flanked by former Mayor and MNA Abdul Sattar Afghani, MMA Deputy Parliamentary Party leader in Sindh Assembly Nasrullah Shaji and JI chief Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Prof Ghafoor said he along with Nasrullah Shaji attended the meeting in which City Nazim Naimatullah Khan was also invited by the Governor while from MQM side was represented by Begum Nasreen Jalil, MPAs Kanwar Naveed, Faisal Sabzwari. Besides Advisor Salahuddin Haider, Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, Home Secretary, CCPO Tariq Jameel, Police and Rangers and other concerned high official were present.

He said in the presence of the opposition representatives, it was the first high-level meeting of its nature in which Governor Ibad expressed concern over increasing tension in educational institutions and said he was keen to restore conducive educational atmosphere in educational institutions by eliminating the tension.
