KARACHI: Body formed to receive proposals on budget

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 30: The members of the City Council on Saturday demanded of the City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, to ensure that the remaining funds of the union councils for the current financial year were immediately transferred to the UCs’ accounts so that development works could be accomplished during their remaining period of office.

They also urged the nazim to gear up efforts in getting arrears of their honorarium from the Sindh government.

The City Council session in which the city government’s budget for the fiscal 2005-06 was presented for discussion was presided over by the council’s senior presiding officer, Muslim Pervez. Mr Niamat and DCO Karachi Fazal-ur-Rehman, were present on the occasion.

The council unanimously adopted a resolution whereby a 15-member budget committee was formed to receive proposals from members regarding the budget.

The committee has been asked to receive proposals from City Council members concerning the draft budget till May 11, and submit its report in the light of these proposals to the city naib nazim by May 16, so that the house could consider it in its May 18 session. The said session would be convened at the City Council’s hall at 3pm.

Members, belonging to almost all groups, including minority members, paid rich tributes to the city nazim for carrying out an unprecedented number of development works in the city.

Niamat said credit for this went to nazims and councillors of all towns, union councils and members of the City Council, including women councillors, who always cooperated with him.
