PCB constitutes probe body

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, April 29: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formed a three-member committee to probe the ‘ugly act’ of Shoaib Malik who deliberately conceded a match of Twenty20 Cup on Thursday to Karachi Zebras while leading Sialkot Stallions. The chairman of the domestic cricket committee, Shafiq Ahmed, former Test cricketer, coach and manager Haroon Rasheed and legal adviser Syed Asghar are on the committee.

PCB director cricket operations Saleem Altaf said that Shoaib would appear before the committee on Saturday at 9.30am at the PCB offices.

It will be on the basis of the committee’s findings, which will be submitted on Sunday, that the national selection committee will decide the fate of Shoaib for the West Indies tour.

The team for the tour is scheduled to be announced on Monday.

Altaf said that he could not say about the maximum punishment if Shoaib was found guilty because the incident had happened in domestic cricket. It would have come under Level 2 offence had it happened in international cricket.

Altaf said that the committee had been given referee’s report of the match between Lahore Eagles and Sialkot Stallions on April 26 and Thursday’s controversial encounter between the Zebras and the Stallions.
