ISLAMABAD, April 23: The Pakistan government is hosting a reception on Sunday to honour the Pakistan cricket team for winning the ODI’s series and sharing the three Test series against India. A fleet of Pajero vehicles, one for each member of the team, has been arranged that would carry the players from Blue Area to the square in front of the Parliament House.

Pakistan Television will air a telethon on Sunday that would include coverage of the victory procession and the dinner to be hosted by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

The results in India — a drawn Test series and a 4-2 victory in the one-day competition — has seen the government overdoing the celebrations.

Already President Gen Pervez Musharraf has announced cash awards for skipper Inzamamul Haq and Shahid Afridi and now more is expected on Sunday when the players meet the Prime Minister.

The victorious team will be escorted by police on motorbikes and there will be folk dances and a string of other events to mark the occasion.

But Pakistan tennis stars Aisamul Haq and Aqeel Khan who saved the country blushes at the Islamic Games this week by winning three gold medals and a bronze, may well be wishing only if they had been cricket players.
