President welcomes new pope
MANILA, April 20: Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday welcomed the election of German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as the new pope. Speaking at a breakfast meeting with the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, he said the new pontiff will have an important role to play in bridging the social and cultural divides between the West and Islam.—AFP
