Okara tenants want give-and-take policy

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, April 20: Tenants of Chak 15/4-L have announced that they are ready to accept the lease system if they are provided the alternative agriculture lands against those required for defence purposes. On the other hand, an intelligence agency spokesman said the case of alternative agricultural lands was already being studied and would be sent to the authorities concerned.

According to reports, hundreds of tenants of 15/4-L assembled to start harvesting of the wheat crop on lands where a heavy police contingent also rushed to avoid any untoward incident.

However, the tenants, led by Altaf Kamboh, withdrew themselves from the process. Mr Kamboh said they had deferred harvesting for 48 hours on the request of DPO Syed Zafar Abbas Bokhari, who had assured them of some practical solution to the issue.

He said the tenants would vacate lands for defence purposes if they were given alternative lands and were ready to hold further dialogues over this issue.

SEXUAL ASSAULT: A four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a vagabond at Dhol Gehla village.

The suspect, Naveed, and his accomplices allegedly took the girl to a deserted place and sexually assaulted her. The girl was shifted to hospital. Hujra Shah Muqeem police have registered a case.
