6pc rebate insufficient, says Prgmea

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 20: Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) president Dawood Usman Jakhura has termed 6 per cent rebate for garment exports to EU as insufficient. In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said that the government was fully aware of the disastrous situation the value added sector was facing due to imposition of 12 per cent customs tariff by the EU in the wake of withdrawal of GSP scheme.

He suggested that a minimum of 10 per cent subsidy should be given from the Export Development Fund (EDF) to exporters who are already burdened with high input cost and taxes.
