Moin’s century pilots PIA into last four

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, April 8: Moin Khan, the former Test captain, blasted his second century in the current Patron’s Cup one-day cricket tournament as PIA confirmed their semifinal berth with fourth straight victory on Friday.

Moin, the 33-year-old wicket-keeper/batsman, punished the ZTBL bowlers at will to hammer 101 off only 79 balls as PIA cantered to a crushing 125-run win in the Pool ‘A’ fixture at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium.

Moin, who made a 73-ball 109 against Allied Bank in the first round tie last Sunday, struck six fours and four sixes while dominating a second-wicket partnership of 180 with Kamran Sajid that helped PIA score 294 in 49.5 overs.

The left-handed Kamran was unlucky to miss scoring his century by eight runs and became one of seven victims for Rehan Rafiq, who bowls occasional left-arm spinners.

Kamran’s 92 off 138 balls contained seven boundaries.

ZTBL never looked like making a decent reply after the first six wickets went down with just 81 runs on the board with paceman bagging three early wickets.

Mahmood Hamid, a batsman who seldom turns his arm over, chipped in with three for 26 with his innocuous off-spinners.

Nadeem Khan, the ex-Test slow left-armer who cuts a bulky figure these days, ended the match in appropriate manner when he had last man Imran Sabir caught by his younger brother Moin. Nadeem finished with three for 14.

With this win, PIA have now collected 16 points as the pool leaders. They meet KPT in the in the final preliminary round match at the UBL Sports Complex.
