KARACHI, April 8: Chest physicians from all over the country as well as from India and Bangladesh are arriving in city to attend a two-day regional conference on “Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis” commencing here from Saturday.
The two-day event is being organised by the Pakistan Chest Society in the backdrop of deteriorating environmental conditions and fast changing weather scenario in South Asia.
Issues to be particularly raised during the two-day conference will be difficulties in treating bronchial asthma, pneumonia, inappropriate TB treatment, TB therapy related problems with specific reference to multi drug resistance, intestinal lung diseases, lung cancers, occupational pollution induced chest infections, atmospheric pollution and indoor pollution induced ailments, health issues related to changing life styles and surge in smoking among youth.
The vice-chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Masood Hameed Khan will formally inaugurate the event today.
Chief Coordinator of the scientific program is Prof Nadeem Rizvi supported by Dr Shakil A Siddiqui, Dr Mirza Saifullah Baig, Dr Nausheen, Dr Shaheena Qayyum, Dr Nisar Rao and Dr Tajammul.
Meanwhile, pre-conference workshops on advance cardiac life support, non invasive ventilation and smoking cessation were also held at different major hospitals of the city here on Friday.
Educating general practitioners, family physicians and junior chest physicians was mainly focused in the workshops.
These workshops conducted by senior health care professionals provided the participants an opportunity to update their knowledge in the management of chest diseases and tuberculosis besides oncological complications.—APP
