Jauretche and Hyde snatch hat tricks


LAHORE, April 7: Chris Hyde and Pablo Jauretche crowned hat tricks and led Wak Group to a sparkling 13 goals to seven and a half win over Fauji Remounts in the President Cup polo tournament on Thursday at Lahore polo Club.

Top scorer Chris who struck six goals to contribute lion’s share, completed the hat trick in the fourth chukker taking the score to 10-4 before Jauretche achieved a similar feat making it 7-3 against Remounts which went into the field with one and a half goal lead on handicap.

Wak finished the first chukker establishing 4-1 lead when Hyde and Agha Murtaza Ali shared two field goals apiece as Lucas broke deadlock from Remounts.

The winners’ aggressive approach and clinical finish kept their opponents under persistent pressure and they seldom came across scoring opportunities as they were mostly on the defensive.

In a low scoring second chukker Remounts netted a field goal from Khurshid Ahmad and WAK enlarged the lead to 5-2.

The third chukker saw both the sides netting two goals each with Remounts getting closer at 4-7. Sufi Muhammad Aamir scored Remounts third goal and Pablo come up with two consecutive goals to score a hat trick in field attacks. Sufi collected his second goal in the closing stages of the chukker during a mid-field attack.

The fourth chukker belonged to Hyde who emerged as the lone hero with three superb goals, first converting a sport penalty and then dominating with two field goals to complete his hat trick, enhancing lead at 10-4 while ever dangerous Jauretche scored the winner’s fourth goal.

Agha and Hyde contributed one field goal apiece in the fifth chukker in which Sufi and Isfandiyar Pataudi scored for Remounts.—APP
