KARACHI, April 6: Karachi Port Trust suffered a five-wicket defeat against Allied Bank after a gallant partnership between Atif Ali Zaidi and Javed Qadeer lifted them to a respectable total in the Patron’s Cup Pool ‘A’ tie at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The bankers could have been chasing less than 268 after having KPT dead and buried at 99 for seven. But Atif (69 off 86 balls, five fours) and Qadeer (93 off 77 balls, six fours and three sixes) came together in a remarkable eighth-wicket stand of 163 to raise hopes in the KPT camp.

However, Usman Tariq (60 off 83 balls, eight fours), Ijaz Ahmed Jr (54 off 49 balls, two fours and three sixes), Bilal Asad (38 off 29 balls) and Manzoor Akhtar (38 off 41 balls) ensured a comfortable first win for Allied Bank.
