KARACHI: ST member shot dead

KARACHI, April 6: Unknown persons killed a member of the elderly committee of the Sunni Tehreek in Qasba Colony on Wednesday. Police said that Maulana Mohammad Amin Qadri, a government school teacher, was inside Government Boys Elementary School in Qasba Colony where unknown armed suspects barged in and shot Maulana at point blank range. The body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy examination. Police said that the victim had four sons and four daughters.

Following the incident, some enraged activists of Sunni Tehreek took to the streets and set a vehicle (JE-6910) on fire.

SEIZED: The Preventive Drug Enforcement Cell recovered and seized nine kilograms brown and off-white heroin powder from an export consignment of assorted jeans and arrested the exporter.

The heroin powder so recovered was cleverly concealed inside the stitched upper lining of jeans pants.

The consignment of assorted jeans pants was being exported to the UAE.

Following the recovery and seizure of contraband heroin, the accused exporter namely Nawaz Ahmed Khan s/o Ali Bhadur Khan has been arrested for violation of Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997. The accused has been referred to the Investigation and Prosecution Branch of the Custom House for further investigation.
