By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 5: The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual examinations, 2005, got underway at various examination centres in private and public sector schools peacefully on Tuesday. The controller of examination of the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, Mohammad Saleem Khan claimed that papers were conducted at all the designated centres in two shifts as per schedule without any interruption. The papers were dispatched and delivered to the centres in time and no complaint about late commencement of examination from any of the centre was received.

He said that the board had set up a cell to coordinate with the examination centres and help them out in case of any problem.

The number of special cell at the board is 6617990.

To a question, he said that no school had been allowed to conduct examinations in tents. About 0.3 million candidates have been registered for classes IX and X examinations and about 400 examination centres have been set up for the purpose. Some of the candidates, however, have complained about poor utilities and amenities at the centres.

It was further learnt that the chairman of the board, Brig (retd) Shafiullah Qureshi, and controller of examinations separately visited some examination centres on Tuesday to review the arrangements. The educational board has also set up 95 vigilance teams for supervising the conduct of examination.

In the meantime, a team constituted by the executive district officer education visited the examination centre set up at the Educator’s, Block-7, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and found that over 100 candidates were taking examination in tents under the sun, instead of classrooms. On the intervention of the team, however, the students were finally shifted in classrooms.

The EDO Education, Ijaz Ali Khan has asked all the centre superintendents to ensure that candidates were accommodated and seated in classrooms and halls and provided with a calm and peaceful environment and facilities of electric fans and cool drinking water during the examinations.

In another communication, the EDO said that inspection team was sent at different schools against which complaints were received from parents and students that those were not issuing admit cards to students for want of fee of June and July. On the intervention of the team students were issued the withheld admit cards, said a press release.

Some of the schools were contacted on phones as well and were advised to deliver the admit cards or face action in line with the Sindh government’s policy.

The EDO has once again asked the parents to report to his office in case admit cards to their wards had not been issued for want of fees.
