KARACHI, April 1: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Raheem said the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) was an organized political party and it would resolve problems of the people by using all means on political platform, while it would also confront with opposition’s strike calls.
The PML would soon arrange a big rally and demonstrate its political might, he said while speaking to the PML’s gathering of office-bearers and workers of various towns of the Sindh province on Thursday night.
Describing the present government as people and businessmen-friendly, he said that its policies were greatly helping in attracting foreign investment in the country.
Dr Arbab said that investors from Saudi Arabia, China, Dubai, Japan and other countries were contacting to invest in Pakistan especially in Sindh.
He said the government had granted permission to opposition parties for holding public processions and rallies and dealt with them light-handedly, but they were now trying to destroy the country by observing strikes, which could not be allowed.
Dr Arbab declared that we would now deal with them on administrative course and agitators would not be spared. Provincial ministers, members of the national and provincial assemblies would ensure their presence among the masses at their respective constituencies on April 2 to foil the strike.
He directed the PML workers to visit markets and foil opposition’s conspiracies with the help of the shopkeepers.
The chief minister maintained that the government had not conducted political vendetta against anybody but one should not take advantage of government’s soft attitude.
Taking the workers into confidence, Dr Arbab had a pledge from them that on April 2 they would be with the people and foil the strike.
Sindh PML Additional Secretary General Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi also spoke while provincial minister Altaf Unnar, adviser Ghulam Hussein Unnar, Azad Bin Hyder, Captain Haleem Siddiqui, Mehfuz Yar Khan, Aijaz Shah Shirazi, provincial minister Dr Saeeda Malik and others were also present.
On the occasion, the PML’s office-bearers and workers expressed full confidence on the Sindh chief minister’s leadership.
Meanwhile, the press spokesman for Sindh Chief Minister has termed Thursday’s strike call by Ponam as a show of complete failure.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he said the people of Sindh had collectively rejected the strike call of Ponam.
He said a few shops in some areas were closed due to observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
The spokesman pointed out that the people of Sindh had rejected the negative politics of opposition and they would not tolerate any obstacle in the way of progress.
The spokesman further said that on the day of strike (March 31) the city’s life was normal and people were doing their day-to-day work as per routine. No political party in this connection could claim any credit.
He further said the people of Sindh were fed up with these elements hurling threats and resorting to lawlessness, instead the people wanted peace and prosperity in the province.
