KARACHI: Govt to compensate transporters: Adil

KARACHI, April 1: The provincial labour and transport department in a statement issued on Friday said all industrial and business activities would continue as normal in Karachi and elsewhere in Sindh on April 2.

Besides, the city, inter-city and long route transport would also ply as per schedule, it added. It said the government would strictly deal with those disrupting normal life, damaging public transport and resorting to arson.

The statement described the strike as being without any ground and a conspiracy against workers who work in shops, mills, and factories on daily wages.

It said the government realised the fact that low income people were faced with problems because of poverty and price hike, but strikes offered no solution, and on the contrary added to the miseries of people.

It referred to the Sindh transport minister’s reiteration that the Sindh governor and the chief minister had already assured industrialists, traders and transporters of providing them complete protection, and that the government would bear any damage caused to their properties.

The transport minister himself had assured ever kind of protection to all trade and industry and transport organisations, the statement added.

It further said the Rangers and police would remain present at all termini of inter-city and local buses right from early morning while law enforcers will accompany public transport.

Meanwhile, the Adviser to Chief Minister on Local Bodies, Wasim Akhtar, on Friday said that protection of the life and property of people, national assets and establishment of law and order were the top most priorities of the local government.

The adviser said this in a directive issued to all district nazims, district governments and taluka municipal administrations.

Mr Akhtar issued a communiqué to all heads of local body institutions with regard to the strike call given by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, directing them to extend all-out cooperation to the government for the smooth functioning of public organisations, continuation of business activities and establishment of law and order.—APP
