70-year-old lawyer held

MITHI, March 30: Police have arrested a lawyer in a case of alleged power theft here on Wednesday. According to Diplo police, Arbab Murad Ali, of Bhukrio village in Diplo taluka, has been arrested in a case relating to electricity theft. When contacted on telephone, Diplo SHO Abdul Sattar Gurgech told Dawn that the allegation against advocate Arbab Murad Ali was being investigated.

Meanwhile, in a press statement issued here on Wednesday, Arbab Khalid Mehmood, Aziz Lund and other residents of the Bhukrio village alleged that the senior advocate, who was 70 years old, had been arrested at the behest of his political opponents.

“Hesco disconnected the electricity of the Bhukrio village last month despite payment of the electricity bill and complaint s have been lodged in the sessions court of Mithi”, added the press statement. The complainants have demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
