ISLAMABAD, March 28: The government is likely to initiate talks on a Preferential Trade Arrangement (PTA) with Gulf Cooperation Council of States (GCCS) aimed at enhancing trade with oil rich countries. An official told Dawn that Pakistan and the GCCS had already agreed to sign the PTA under a framework agreement on economic cooperation. Pakistan has recently ratified the framework agreement which would be implemented following ratification by the GCCS. According to the official, Pakistan will seek greater market access for its agricultural and textile products under the proposed PTA with Gulf states.
